It Starts Here

There's a funny thing about getting older.

The things you thought mattered start to change.

You spend years chasing opportunities, building careers, trying to prove yourself. Then one day you realise that success isn't always about building something bigger.

Sometimes it's about building something that matters.

For me, that's what Nelson Produce is.

Not a company.

Not a logo.

Not another wholesaler.

A chance to build something with family.

Standing on a farm these days feels different.

You notice things you never paid attention to before.

The way the light hits an orchard first thing in the morning.

The dirt under your boots.

The conversations that happen leaning against a ute or walking through rows of produce.

The people.

Always the people.

Because produce has never really been about fruit and vegetables.

It's about the people growing them.

The families behind them.

The generations of knowledge that don't come from textbooks or business plans.

You can't manufacture that.

You earn it.

Season after season.

Year after year.

Food has followed me my whole life.

I wanted to be a chef and own a restaurant.

And I did. It became Caffe Salina in Bronte…

I spent time living. and perfecting my craft in Italy, learning that food isn't just fuel. It's culture. It's identity. It's community. It’s family.

Long days.

Early mornings.

Late nights.

The hospitality game teaches you a lot about pressure.

But it also teaches you what quality looks like.

You know when something's right.

And you know when it isn't.

The truth is, though, Nelson Produce probably wouldn't exist without family.

My father-in-law Andrew has been around this industry longer than most.

Back in the 70’s he helped build Tom & Franks and spent decades working alongside growers, Sydney markets and chefs.

He saw the industry before social media.

Before branding.

Before everyone had a story.

Back when your reputation was built on showing up and doing what you said you would do.

Funny enough, that's still the best business advice I've ever heard.

Do what you say you're going to do.

The rest usually takes care of itself.

When MarEE and I moved regional, we noticed something pretty quickly.

Access changes.

The talent is there.

The passion is there.

The hospitality businesses are there.

But access to quality produce isn't always the same as it is in the city.

That never sat right with us.

Why should a chef in regional Australia have fewer opportunities than one in Sydney?

Why should local communities have less access to great produce?

Why should distance determine quality?

That's where Nelson Produce started.

Not with a business plan.

With a question.

And a belief that we could do something about it.

What excites me most isn't where Nelson Produce is today.

It's where it could be.

The growers we'll meet.

The chefs we'll support.

The communities we'll become part of.

The stories we'll tell.

And being able to do it alongside family.

That's the bit that matters.

That's the real reward.

Businesses come and go.

Markets rise and fall.

Trends change.

But relationships endure.

Trust endures.

Family endures.

That's what we're building.

Not just a produce business.

A legacy.

One grower.

One chef.

One delivery.

One relationship at a time.

It starts here.
